Korean Jangdan Music Festival [Jangdan Uhee]

The Korean Jangdan Music Festival [Jangdan Uhee] is a performing arts festival that reinterprets the aesthetics of traditional Korean rhythmic patterns through a contemporary sensibility. More than a simple rhythm, jangdan is a uniquely Korean artistic language in which rules and variation, order and improvisation, natural flow and unpredictability coexist. Focusing on the the spirit of play of jangdan, [Jangdan Uhee] creates a new stage where the body and sound moving within rhythm, as well as the shared breath between artists and audiences, come together.

[Jangdan Uhee] is a performing arts platform where performance, creation, education, and communication are organically connected. Its signature program, [Jangdan Stage], highlights the essence and depth of jangdan through diverse performances by master percussionists (鼓手). [Jangdan Creative] newly interprets the value and role of jangdan through experimental creative works based on traditional rhythmic structures. [Jangdan Focus] discovers and showcases emerging artists, exploring new possibilities for jangdan music.

In addition, the festival offers a rich range of programs that allow audiences to experience the appeal of jangdan from multiple perspectives. These include [Jangdan Academy], an educational program where participants can learn and experience jangdan firsthand; [Jangdan Talk Talk], a space for open communication between artists and audiences; [Off Stage], an open-call performance platform presenting works across diverse genres; and [Producer Mentoring], designed to support domestic and international distribution and overseas expansion.
